Whitmore High School

BIMBox was appointed by Morgan Sindall as Information Manager on the £30.5m transformation of Whitmore High School in Barry, Wales. The Vale of Glamorgan Council commissioned the project in a partnership with Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools programme, which involves a comprehensive upgrading of educational facilities across Wales.

Whitmore High School in Barry, Wales accommodates 1,100 pupils, within a modern learning environment, including state-of-the-art facilities across three storeys.

In total, teaching space is spread across 70 classrooms and two drama and activity studios, plus a dedicated specialist suite to support students with additional learning needs. Indoor and outdoor sporting facilities form part of the development, encompassing an all-weather pitch, multi-use games court and a central courtyard.

BIMBox supported Morgan Sindall Construction throughout the delivery of the project as Information Manager, undertaking a comprehensive digital project management and coordination service to provide added insight, confidence and connectivity to achieve the project’s aspirations.

At delivery commencement, BIMBox appraised the project BIM documentation to ensure that the inherited information provided clarity to the project and would provide a route for successful delivery of digital project information. Following our review, we deployed additional resource to support the end client specify their data requirements and worked with the delivery team through collaborative workshops to ensure that these were understood and could be achieved.

Regular model auditing, data verification and clash detection exercises were undertook by BIMBox, with findings shared and resolved with the project team through dedicated meetings, embedding helpful information and insight to offer a measurable benefit.

BIMBox also ensured the smooth handover of single coordinated COBie schema and presented lessons learnt at the close of the project, alongside Morgan Sindall.

Value of £27m

Whitmore High School completed and opened four months ahead of schedule, following a fully coordinated BIM and information management design process that helped to avoid interruptions to progress and supported stakeholder and supply chain engagement.

The successful delivery was undertaken alongside the £27m Cefn Saeson Secondary School, delivered in parallel to Whitmore High School, also under the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme. BIMBox led the Information / BIM Management at both schools, with Cefn Saeson completing three months ahead of schedule.
