Central Yard Complex Facility
In July 2017, working alongside Morgan Sindall as Lead Contractor, BIMBox were appointed as Lead Information Management Consultant to help deliver the state-of-the-art £100 million nuclear submarine building complex in Barrow In Furness, Cumbria. The complex is now used to outfit and test the most advanced submarines in the Royal Navy's fleet and comprises production, workshop and office facilities and includes two cranes, each with a 150 tonne capacity and a 60m span.
The complexity and scale of the site, coupled with the building’s design requirements meant that the project required a team with specific expertise, and experience of working in partnership with defense contractors. In this context BIMBOX provided critical oversight and support of the projects Level 2 BIM objectives, including fulfilling the role of trusted advisor for the strategic, technical, and managerial information management requirements and ensuring compliance with UK BIM standards across the project.
BIMBox saw over the Appraisal and Authoring of project Standards and Protocols including EIR, AIR, BEP, as well as Co-ordinating COBie Schemas. Crucial project communications, stakeholder advise, and engagement were necessary for the delivery team and client to manage expectations and alignment of critical-path deliverables affected by Information Management. These deliverables included scheduled updating, auditing, and verification of value-adding data, both remote and on-site.
Software and technical implementation and oversight was conducted for the configuration of Project BIM Software/Tools such as Navisworks, Solibri and Revit. Training and Support Workshops sessions were regularly held, proving this Technical Support for the Client and Delivery Team to ensure the seamless flow of value-adding information throughout the project for a Quality Assured and Controlled expectation of success.
Regular Clash Detection performance and reporting were completed to ensure that the project Information Management consistently met the necessary BIM Level 2 standards and compliancy requirements and facilitated the successful co-ordination of multi-disciplinary design and construction information.
