BIMBox has supported the successful delivery and handover of two major new schools as part of the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme, leading the Information Management at both projects for Morgan Sindall Construction. The Welsh schools include the £30.5m Whitmore High School in Barry and £27m Cefn Saeson Comprehensive School in North Talbot.

BIMBox led a fully co-ordinated information management process in-line with PAS 1192 at both educational developments, helping to provide an efficient and clear route to project success. This involved BIM management and coordination, including undertaking model auditing, data verification, clash detection and COBie delivery, amongst BIM documentation authoring and technical support.

Each school included comprehensive facilities that, through the support of detailed digital building information, were delivered with measurable efficiency savings. Whitmore High School opened four months ahead of schedule, with Cefn Saeson Comprehensive School completing three months’ prior to schedule.

The use of BIM and digital information helped inform project decisions throughout the lifecycle and avoid potential interruptions to progress, with the full supply chain across both projects engaged with the information process, aiding a culture of digital connectivity.

Both schools are now in-use to the delight of teachers and pupils, providing the local community with access to state-of-the-art educational facilities.
